In\u00a0Lucirm\u00e1s,\u00a0as you know,\u00a0we promote the\u00a0sustainable design<\/strong>.\u00a0That’s it:\u00a0before reading, one thing\u00a0has to\u00a0be clear: sustainable\u00a0design\u00a0has\u00a0not only\u00a0to do with\u00a0the material of the\u00a0end\u00a0piece\u00a0which\u00a0is created,\u00a0but includes\u00a0the whole process, both the\u00a0creation\u00a0and the\u00a0distribution\u00a0of the\u00a0product.\u00a0To show you\u00a0an example of sustainable\u00a0design\u00a0in practice, we will\u00a0explain\u00a0you\u00a0how it’s\u00a0 the process\u00a0of\u00a0creating\u00a0products\u00a0in\u00a0Lucirm\u00e1s:<\/p>\n

Sustainable design: not only is it\u00a0the final product<\/h2>\n

Implementing sustainable desig<\/strong>n\u00a0takes much more\u00a0to use\u00a0biodegradable materials\u00a0or\u00a0upcycling\u00a0practice;\u00a0a process of sustainable\u00a0design\u00a0involves thinking\u00a0at each stage,which\u00a0can optimize\u00a0or change\u00a0to pollute less,\u00a0reduce\u00a0energy costs\u00a0or resources\u00a0or\u00a0planning how\u00a0we are creating\u00a0the product\u00a0can be reused\u00a0or recycled\u00a0in case of breakageor wear.<\/p>\n

It is, ultimately,\u00a0to reduce our\u00a0ecological footprint,\u00a0an interesting concept that\u00a0becomes the\u00a0indicator or\u00a0measure of how much\u00a0environmental impact are\u00a0the actions\u00a0that we carry out, either\u00a0in everyday\u00a0life or in\u00a0our professional environment.\u00a0To show you\u00a0an example of\u00a0this concept,\u00a0here’s a\u00a0very interesting for\u00a0you to calculate\u00a0your ecological home\u00a0footprint.<\/p>\n

Case study of sustainable design: what we do at Lucirm\u00e1s<\/h3>\n

In Lucirm\u00e1s, as you already\u00a0may see, the base material we use to create our products are recycled glass bottles. One of the techniques we use to shape our products is the cold cut, which is done with a diamond blade saw which requires constantly be dropping water jet cutting blade to cool the piece we want to cut glass. How do we make this process sustainable? Well, for example, all machines that perform this function are connected to a cistern system of continuous cycle that causes the falling water is used over and over again, thus reducing water consumption and contributing to a lower expenditure of resources .<\/p>\n

Another aspect level workshop is how we handle the remains of glass bottles that We\u00a0don’t\u00a0use: all residues are stored in cardboard boxes in order to use them for future designs that are always working. We never know when we will need it!<\/p>\n

With our sander also we practice sustainable design: when this machine sanding is spent, it is reused to cut and create pieces of sandpaper to use into smaller pieces.<\/p>\n

Sustainable Design: the packaging
\n\"packaging<\/h3>\n

Once We have\u00a0seen the product creation process, we’ll see how we apply sustainable design \u00a0to\u00a0our packaging. We do following several assumptions:<\/p>\n

-Take\u00a0the smallest possible space: all disassembled parts are shipped to the end user so they take less space and, thus, easier to transport, thereby reducing emissions of fuel. The installation instructions also come in recycled paper.<\/p>\n

-Reusable-Box: our packaging is very basic. It is plain cardboard box and unpainted, designed so that then can reuse it.<\/p>\n

-The\u00a0material Protector is\u00a0 sustainable too: instead of using the classic bubble wrap in Lucirm\u00e1s we\u00a0opted for other materials resistant but also\u00a0paper- based\u00a0created\u00a0to be biodegradable.<\/p>\n

-awareness For end users: all our products, plus installation instructions are accompanied by a small brochure\u00a0that explained our philosophy and we encourage the end customer to use it responsibly.<\/p>\n

You see, sustainable design is much more than what you see in the product, it is to think of every detail!<\/p>\n
